My journey to body work
I was born in Desamparados, just south of San José, Costa Rica, and grew up surrounded by a large, loving family. Since I was a child, I’ve had a desire to help those who were suffering from physical pain.
I began my career working in the finance departments of large multi-national corporations, which offered stability, allowed me to develop my English and Portuguese, and taught me important business fundamentals. From the moment I started though, I knew it was just a job, not something that I felt deeply passionate about.
Physical touch in the form of body work has always been part of my life. Through massage, I had the opportunity to help the pain felt by two beloved family members towards the end of their lives. Massage has also helped me on an emotional level. It has brought me peace and a connection with the present.
The opportunity to study at the Costa Rican School of Massage Therapy, combined with my personal experiences, have taught me that body work, combined with education, love, and a desire to help others can provide powerful benefits for physical and emotional wellbeing.
My Education
When I started looking for massage schools, I realized that it would be hard to find a high quality program that I could afford in Costa Rica. Then I found the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy, and knew that if I could find a way to make it work, it would be the place for me. This school, which is located in Samara, in the Northwest of Costa Rica, is the only massage institute outside the USA that is accredited by the American Massage Therapy Association. In the past, almost all the students have been Americans who come to Costa Rica for the intensive, 700 hour program and then return to the states to practice.
When I went to Samara and toured the campus, I learned that the school brings premier educators and practitioners from across the globe to teach, and just like private higher education in the States, the high quality comes with a high cost of attendance. While the school always has had a great relationship with the local community, they had never had a Costa Rican student before, which is something they wanted to change.
I’m honored to say that I received a first-of-it’s-kind scholarship from the Costa RIcan School of Massage Therapy and was the first Tica to graduate from this intensive, all English program. For now, I want to practice here in Costa Rica, but eventually plan to travel to the United States to get my license.
My hope is to bring the same open-hearted approach to my clients that I have received in the world of massage. I have seen firsthand how powerful this can be.
Treat yourself or a loved one to a session today
Massages are generally 90 minutes, and the specific techniques I use will be based on what you need or are looking for. My standard price is $120, and you won’t be charged will after the session. It’s important to me that cost is not a barrier to you receiving the body work you need, so if this price is out of reach, please let me know and we can discuss options.
